(Not so) INSTAgram

Oh instagrammy gram gram!
Why oh why have you changed your set-up? :(

I’m a true believer in the phrase- if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
Which is why I’m disappointed that my favourite social media platform, Instagram has from today changed its setup from a chronological timeline to algorithms.

Basically, algorithms show you what you want to see, (as opposed to the order in which the pics are posted from who you are following), meaning if you like someone’s posts regularly they will still appear as normal. However, if you don’t like the posts of some people you follow very often these are the people who will appear at the very end of your feed.
The reason I love Insta so much is because it’s instant. (Hello! The clue is in the name!)
I love to share with my friends and followers visually what I’m doing, where I am, that gorgeous view, the cheat meal I’m having or pre-night-out selfie! I love to connect with others and search hashtags for beautiful images I can like and comment on.

Ever since Instagram made the change announcement a few weeks back, I’ve found myself constantly liking pics in the hopes my feed won’t drastically change.
Now that it’s changing, I feel I’m going to miss out on quite a lot. You’ll also have recently noticed a lot of users asking followers to “turn on post notifications” in an attempt to keep them at the top of your feed.
I tried and tested this method out with a few of my favourite instagrammers, and personally it’s just not worth it…

1)  My top favs include bloggers and celebs, who post at least 3 or 4 pictures a day! You will be overwhelmed with LOOOAAAADS of notifications, which just annoyed me.

2) If you’re notified for posts, it has no bearing on the algorithm whatsoever. If you like a users posts, you will still see them. Instagram is most likely not tracking or taking into consideration whose posts you are notified about.

3) You may get notified that X user has posted, but STILL not like their photo. If you eventually get annoyed by the notification and take it off, you will STILL not see them in your feed.

I really wish insta had stayed the same, but like most things these days, I guess the creators are trying to change it up and keep it fresh.

So if you follow me and you like my photos, I'll still pop up on your timeline every so often with the occasional selfie and what I bought in Mac! But as for post notifications, my advice to you would be to keep them turned off.
